\abstract{ In this paper, we study light emission in a tunnel contact between the tip of the scanning tunneling microscope tungsten probe covered with Au and Au film on glass substrate at ambient conditions. Dependence of the emission efficiency on the Au film surface morphology is investigated. Analysis of the experimental data demonstrates strong influence of the Au surface grains aspect ratio on the optical emission intensity in the tunnel contact. Maximum photon emission efficiency is obtained with the use of singular nearly atomically flat monocrystalline Au surface.
